Meet a New Family History Librarian... :O HELP!

Well, I've done it now. I went to a Family History Conference a week ago to help myself to learn more, and ended up getting roped in as a new Family History volunteer librarian.

It was Brother M's fault. He really gave me a mental boost as he insisted that I am perfect for the job for a huge number of reasons, a few of which included:

I'm intelligent, polite, and extremely great with people! Wow! I wonder if he sees the same Corine everyone else sees! :D He really sold me to myself! With all of my superb qualifications, how could I refuse? LOL :D

So, each Thursday from 2 PM until 6 PM, I will be working in the Family History Center at the Hayden Stake Center!

I am a major beginner. I just started doing genealogy this year (and didn't do it all summer) and feel completely clueless! And now, here I am volunteering as a librarian! Aha! You would think that Brother M would have taken that into consideration!

Oh well. All I can say is,

HELP!

And, Please pray for me!

I guess I'm still not very good at saying "no."

Actually though, I am very excited. I have a strong desire to do a ton of Genealogy for my family and to help others with theirs as well.

What better way to learn to swim than to dive right in and do it! I just know this is going to help me to actually figure out what I am doing! :D I'm excited! :D

  1. Learning to swim is always preferable to leaping off of the deep end, however, you'll do great. I am sure that they'll help you out before making you walk the plank...

  2. LOL- "walk the plank" eh?

I was thinking exactly the same thing (hoping I don't have to run to the other librarians for help too frequently) - I suspect I will at first, but I will learn quickly.

  3. Hey Corine
Genealogy is both neat and scary at the same time. I have had three strikes with family stuff so I am leaving well enough alone. But I hope you can help others have more success and happiness then I.

  4. Hi! :) It really is both neat and scary, isn't it? But you know what? The saying "three strikes and you're out!" does not apply to doing genealogy.

I think it is quite normal to search for the same ancestor repeatedly; it's sort of a treasure hunt of sorts.

I hope you won't give up on finding your family treasure! :D

Speaking of treasures... I LOVE COMMENTS! :D Thanks for visiting and commenting!

  5. I really got into genealogy about 2 years ago. I guess you could say I caught the 'bug' and found all sorts of names. The challenge now is getting all of their work done. But I agree, it is like a treasure hunt of sorts, isn't it? And finding the next name in a family line is most definitely a treasure.

Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll be awesome.

  6. So true Gerb! Isn't it a great feeling though, when you do go and do the work, and you know that your ancestors may be up there ecstatic and praising you for it?

My daughter Mindy started her grandmother's work the instant she turned 12. It is so cool... to do that for someone that you really care about! :D

There is a ripple effect in all that we do; what you do touches me, what I do touches you...

THANK YOU for your comments; you add so much insight and brighten my day! :)
